Examines Mexico's history and its peoples from indigenous periods to the arrival of Europeans and Spanish colonization including the mission system and rancherìas of California, New Mexico, and Colorado. Focuses on the independence movement and Mexico's relationship with the United States during westward expansion. Examines the 20th century by focusing on the Mexican Revolution and the factors which have resulted in continuous northern migration. Taught in English with Spanish readings for Spanish majors. Course Narrative. This course provided me with an opportunity to learn about the history and politic side of Mexico. Coming from Mexican decent parents I wanted to learn more about their history and political situation. With this course I got to full-fill the MLO3: Literary and Cultural knowledge.
At the beginning of the semester we learned about the indigenous Mesoamerican through the Spanish conquest. We also learned about the colonial period with the onset of the Mexican Revolution of 1810. Discovering that Mexico also had 32 states, where we had to memorize and got quizzed on every week. Learning about important leaders such as Benito Juarez and Miguel Hidalgo as well as Pancho Villa.
