Students perform introductory translation assignments from Spanish to English and vice versa. They develop an understanding of translation theory through reading and class discussion and come to understand communicative translation and compare it to a direct, word-for-word approach. Problematic grammatical, discursive, and pragmatic issues are analyzed and the grammar of Spanish is reviewed in detail.
Reflection: In this course our professor taught us about the difference of the two languages we knew. As a Spanish speaker it was a simple way for me to understand him every time he switched languages during our lecture. For our everyday work we would do simple grammar coursework as well as read in Spanish. For one of our projects we had to translate a chapter of any book or source we wanted and had to translate it from english to Spanish or vice versa. This course made me do alot of course work that practiced my reading and writing skills.
